The Passo Sella is a short drive up a steep, twisting, and narrow mountain road from the village of Selva di Val Gardena in the Dolomites of Italy. From the top of the Pass, which sits at roughly 2,200 meters, inviting hikes radiate in different directions.

The alpine world on the Passo Gardena is awesome: to the south the massy Sella Group, the Cir Peaks in the Puez Group with the Puez-Odle Nature Park to the north, the Sassolungo Group to the west and to the east the peaks of the Val Badia valley with the legendary Fanes Group.

Passo Gardena is actually a mountain pass. It's located in the Dolomites of Alto Adige, Italy. And it's an absolutely stunning drive. Which also means it's quite popular with drivers, bikers (motorcycles) and cyclists (pedaling a bicycle). So while I think it's worth the trip, I preface this post forewarning you that it can be busy.

Val Gardena (Grödnertal) is a valley in South Tyrol in the Italian Dolomites, stretching from Gardena Pass (Passo Gardena / Grödnerjoch) and Sella Pass (Passo Sella) to Valle Isarco (Eisacktal). From Val Gardena, you can easily access Puez-Odle Nature Park, the Sassolungo Group, the Sella Group, Resciesa Plateau, and the Alpe di Siusi meadows.

The hike to the big cross (Gran Cir) on Gardena Pass is one of our favorite short day hikes in the Dolomites. It provides a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountain ranges and the sunset here is EPIC. As a plus, this hike is also very easy to do logistic-wise. There's no need to get on a pricey cable car to the trailhead.

It's official: the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are unique. Many guests have confirmed the Dolomites are the most beautiful mountains in the world. In 2009, UNESCO also recognised the region's uniqueness, its geological significance and, last but not least, its beauty. After all, it would have not acknowledged the mountain.

The Gardena Pass is situated in the Dolomites, between Val Gardena and Val Badia, which connects Selva di Val Gardena with Colfosco in Badia. The pass faces north the Sella Group and south Cir group. The High Route n.2 from Bressanone to Feltre cross the pass.

Passo Gardena (Grödner Joch in german, Ju de Frara in ladin badiot, Jëuf de Frea in ladin gardenese) is the pass at 2.121 m between Val Gardena and Alta Badia. Without much to walk gets to see in all directions a lot. You can do a lot of hiking here and also have many beautiful views.
